There are total 117 Vidhan Sabha seats in Punjab. The voting for the 15th Vidhan Sabha (legislative assembly) elections in Punjab was held on 4th Feb 2017 and counting was done on March 11, 2017.
Also check the list of cabinet ministers in Punjab . The speaker of Punjab Vidhan Sabha is Rana Kanwar Pal Singh (Rana K.P. Singh), who belongs to ruling Congress party and is an MLA from Anandpur Sahib constituency. Ajaib Singh Bhatti, the MLA from Malout constituency, is the deputy speaker.

The Congress and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam parties also moved notices for Birla and urged him to be impartial as presiding officer of the Lower House.
