The NFTA, as an authority, oversees a number of subsidiaries, including the NFTA Metro bus and rail system, the Buffalo-Niagara International Airport, the Niagara Falls International Airport and NFTA Small Boat Harbor.
The NFTA operates a fleet of approximately 310 transit buses (all of which are low-floor, wheelchair-accessible and ADA compliant ), 64 paratransit and Metrolink cutaway vans and 27 light rail cars, all operating up to 22 hours daily on 78 distinct routes.
NFTA-Metro provides a level of complementary PAL service that is comparable to the level of service offered on its fixed route bus and rail systems. The complementary PAL service is provided within 3/4 of a mile of an NFTA-Metro bus route or rail station during the same hours and on the same days as the NFTA-Metro fixed route service.
Welcome to the NFTA The Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority is a diversified and synergistic organization, energized by 1,500 dedicated employees, serving Buffalo Niagara through cost-effective, quality transportation services every day.
The NFTA operates a bus and rail transit system with origins dating back more than 150 years. All Transit Police Officers are New York State certified in accordance with the New York State Bureau of Municipal Police Training. The department currently has an authorized strength of 83 sworn Officers with three civilian personnel.
