The NCDPI’s work extends to the NC Center for the Advancement of Teaching with locations in Cullowhee and Ocracoke, and the NC Virtual Public School – the second largest virtual public school in the nation. The state agency also works closely with nine Regional Education Service Alliances/ Consortia and six regional accountability offices.
The NCDPI’s primary offices are in Raleigh, with four regional alternative licensing centers in Concord, Fayetteville, Elm City and Catawba. Approximately 30,000 new teacher and administrator licenses are issued annually from these centers.
The NCDPI Online Licensure System will assist you through the application process. Begin by creating a licensure account. Simply click NCDPI Registration at the bottom left of the online application system main page. Contact the Licensure office by phone at 800-577-7994 (toll-free within North Carolina) or (919) 716-1800.

Parent and guardian contact information and related opt-out procedures are conducted via local systems. NCDPI no longer contacts parents and guardians directly. All such communications are handled via LEAs and other public school units. .
