In general, Medicare doesn’t cover long-term home health care. Here’s how Medicare coverage of in-home health care typically works. In most cases, even when Medicare covers in-home health care, it’s for part-time care, and for a limited time. Some of the requirements may include:
Unfortunately, Medicare does not have any program to pay a family caregiver. Medicare has only limited coverage for home care , and when it does cover home care it does so through a Medicare-certified home health care agency. It does not pay independent caregivers, family or otherwise.
There are two options commonly used to replace or supplement Original Medicare . One option, called Medicare Advantage plans, are an alternative way to get Original Medicare . The other option, Medicare Supplement (or Medigap) insurance plans work alongside your Original Medicare coverage.
Medicare Advantage Plans are often a better deal than standard Medicare and a Medgiap policy, but this is not universally true. A beneficiary who qualifies for the Federal Employee Health Benefits Program will not benefit from having an Advantage plan.
