A leader in electro-mechanical services. In 1946, Magneto Electric began as a modest business repairing and rewinding electric motors. We’ve since become a leader in electro-mechanical service across Ontario, providing a full range of services including rewinds, motor overhauls, dynamic balancing and full machining.
Magneto ignition systems are used primarily in lawn motors, chain saws, and old tractors; they have remained a source of power in light aircraft because they are self-contained and not attached to battery or electric systems in the aircraft, allowing the engine to continue to run even during a battery or electrical failure.
To achieve an adequate output power, magneto generators used many more poles; usually sixteen, from eight horseshoe magnets arranged in a ring.
The magneto is a self-contained generator of high voltage that provides ignition to an engine through spark plugs. A magnet—hence magneto —spins in close proximity to a coil of wire. As the magnet spins (or the magnet rotor is turned), it generates a strong magnetic force that is “held back” by a primary coil.
A magneto is device similar to an alternator for creating electrical energy. Many small gas engines, including several road worthy motorcycles, use them to generate electrical energy. They can be used for supplying spark or charging a battery.
