At least 3 full working day notice at 11:59pm (not including the day of the call) prior to digging, call SC811 by dialing 811 or (888) 721-7877. A SC811 representative will record the location of the digging site and notify member companies of your intent to dig.
Whether you’re planting a tree, shrub or garden, aerating your yard, installing a mailbox or building a fence or deck, contacting OHIO811 before you dig protects your home and your family. Avoid potential injury, property damage, and utility disruption by following the Law and digging safely.
The free, federally mandated national number to call before digging aims to make the process easier. Instead of looking up phone numbers for all the local utility companies, you just need to call 811 .
You must contact 811. When you dial 811, you will automatically be connected to a representative from your state’s 811 center who will ask you simple questions about the location and details of your digging project. If you make your request online, you will enter the same information into a form.
You called before digging, waited for your lines to be marked, confirmed that all utilities responded to your request, and now it’s time to roll up your sleeves and get to work! Make sure to always dig carefully around the marks, not on them.
