The current Grede organization was established in September 2019 when Gamut Capital Management acquired the portfolio from American Axle & Manufacturing Holdings for $245 million. The Columbiana foundry closing is the third shutdown of a ferrous foundry announced during Q2 of 2020, all concerning plants that supply the commercial-vehicle market.
Grede, which manufactures castings for commercial vehicles, will close one of its foundries in August. Grede Holdings LLC and Waupaca Foundry have announced closures.
The company is privately owned and still run by members of the Grede family. Grede Foundries Inc. was built up from a single Milwaukee foundry, and prospered even when other companies in the industry cut back.
Headquartered in Southfield, MI, Grede offers complete precision machining and finishing services, as well as the assembly of diverse components into complete systems. It has 9 facilities in the U.S. with approximately 2,700 employees.
This acquisition is a central part of Grede’s strategy to provide our customers the benefit of increased capacity and flexibility, innovative engineering resources and the combined talents of our exceptional teams. Through the acquisition, Grede will add approximately 250 ACP employees in Meadville as well as all ACP operations.
