In phonetics, a glottal stop is a stop sound made by rapidly closing the vocal cords. Arthur Hughes et al. describe the glottal stop as "a form of plosive in which the closure is made by bringing the vocal folds together, as when holding one's breath (the glottis is not a speech organ, but the space between the vocal folds)" ("English Accents and Dialects", 2013).

Tourette Syndrome (TS) is a condition of the nervous system. TS causes people to have “tics”. Tics are sudden twitches, movements, or sounds that people do repeatedly. People who have tics cannot stop their body from doing these things. For example, a person might keep blinking over and over. Or, a person might make a grunting sound unwillingly.
Since Insulation Outlook is an insulation magazine (and this author’s expertise is in thermal insulation), the rest of this article will discuss TICs as thermal insulation materials, rather than coatings. An evaluation of TICs’ role as coatings will be left to the coating experts.
This treatment is called the Comprehensive Behavioral Intervention for Tics or CBIT (see-bit). The development of this new therapy brings great hope and excite- ment to the TS community.
