Wow and flutter (W&F) is often expressed in terms of peak or RMS value of the frequency deviation. The former is adopted in AES6-2008(r2012) while the latter is used in JIS. Both are measured in Multi-Instrument. The peak wow and flutter value here is not the maximum value in its conventional context.
During wow and flutter measurements, the acquired signal is demodulated first to obtain the instantaneous frequency deviation from the average frequency. The instantaneous frequency deviation, as a function of time, is then weighted according to the subjective perception of human ears.
