Voice of the Martyrs. The Voice of the Martyrs (VOM) is an international non-profit organization whose mission is to serve persecuted Christians. The US office was founded in 1967 by Pastor Richard Wurmbrand, who himself spent fourteen years in Communist prison in Romania for his faith in Christ.
The goals of North American Martyrs School are: to offer instruction in Catholic doctrine and morals. to provide an environment supportive of religious values. to form students in the practice of prayer. to form students in the practice of virtue. to provide opportunities to participate in the Church’s liturgy and devotions.
The forty canonised that day were considered, after More and Fisher, the most representative from the original list of almost three hundred. Each of these forty martyrs has their own day of memorial, but are remembered as a group on 25th October.
Today Holy Martyrs Church is an active church in the midst of Falmouth’s thriving shopping district, working in partnership with Sacred Heart, St. Gregory and St. Jude as the Parish of the Holy Eucharist to proclaim and celebrate our faith.
On August 1, 1968, Holy Martyrs was canonically erected as a full-pledged parish. Father Edward O’Brien was appointed the first permanent pastor. A residence was purchased on Stony Ridge Road, Cumberland Foreside. In the fall, the first Parish Council was elected.
