Child Protective Services (CPS) is the name of a governmental agency in many states of the United States responsible for providing child protection , which includes responding to reports of child abuse or neglect.
What is Child Protective Services? Child Protective Services (CPS) is a branch of your state’s social services department that is responsible for the assessment, investigation and intervention regarding cases of child abuse and neglect, including sexual abuse. In all of its procedures, CPS must follow state and federal laws.
For general questions, you may also contact CPS staff at our main office lines, Monday - Friday during business hours. Child Protective Services helps to identify, treat and reduce child abuse and neglect, and to ensure reasonable efforts are made to protect and maintain children in their homes.
Child Protective Services. The child’s safety is the paramount concern for child protective staff conducting investigations . Families receive services based on the severity of the abuse or neglect, an assessment of the child’s and the family’s needs, and an assessment of the relative safety and risk to the child in the home.
Child Protective Services (CPS) becomes involved with children and families when they are referred by the DFPS Investigations division, which investigates allegations of child abuse and neglect.
