As Mint operates on T- Mobile ’s GSM network, you’ll need a GSM phone to use it. Mint doesn’t offer its own devices, so you’ll be tasked with bringing your own unlocked phone to the network. Unlocked phones are typically geared for either GSM networks, like AT&T and T- Mobile , or CDMA networks, like Verizon and Sprint.
On an iPhone: Go to the Settings app, click on General and then About, and look for an MEID, ESN, or IMEI number near the bottom of the menu. On an Android device: Go to Settings, click on System and then About phone, then click on Status and look for an MEID, ESN, or IMEI number. If your phone has an MEID or an ESN number, it’s CDMA.
With CDMA networks, your phone is often tied to your phone number. CDMA carriers have more control over what phones they allow or don’t allow on their network. Therefore, with CDMA technology, you’ll sometimes have to get your carrier’s permission before you can switch phones.
After an account is created you will see the Activate Your SIM Card section. Click on check your device compatibility. Then, enter your CDMA Phone’s ESN number. Most devices will work with Red Pocket on one or more of our network options. Learn about our different network options by reading this FAQ.
If your CDMA-unlocked phone doesn’t have use SIM card, a carrier will have to use special software to unlock your phone for use on a GSM network. If you intend to keep your phone when you switch from a CDMA to a GSM carrier, make sure to double-check with your carrier first!
