• What are the course requirements to be approved for BTEA?

  The course must be a full-time day course and be approved for the Student Grant Scheme or be approved by Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI). Note that not all QQI courses are approved for BTEA.

• What can I do if I am not covered by BTEA?

  If you want to do other types of courses not covered under the BTEA, for example, personal development courses or general training courses, you may return to education under the Part-time Education option, the Vocational Training Opportunities Scheme (VTOS) or the Education, Training and Development option.

• How do I apply for BTE 1?

  Send your application form to your local Intreo Centre or Social Welfare Branch Office. You should complete the BTE 1 application and also make an application for Jobseeker’s Allowance or Jobseeker’s Benefit or the UP1 JBSE applications.

• Do I need to re-establish my primary payment for BTEA?

  Since 2015, if you are a new BTEA applicant and you were getting a jobseeker’s payment, Farm Assist, a One-Parent Family Payment or a Jobseeker’s Transitional payment, you must re-establish your entitlement to a primary payment to continue to be entitled to BTEA for the second or subsequent years of study.
