Can any one explain why?? This happening because your regular expression doesn't end with any anchor meta-character such as the end of line $ or a word boundary \b.. So when you ask the regex engine whether 123-345-34567 is valid phone number it will try to find a match within this string, so it matches 123-with this part (\([0-9]{3}\) |[0-9]{3}-) then it matches …

RegEx has a One Tool Example. Visit Sample Workflowsto learn how to access this and many other examples directly in Alteryx Designer. Use RegEx (Regular Expression) to leverage regular expression syntax to parse, match, or replace data.
Unfortunately you cannot just go and grab a regex for this job as people like to format their phone numbers in an insanely varied number of ways (+1.800.1332444 or 1 800 133 2444 or + (1) 800 13 32 44 44 and on and on). My solution to this is to do some cleansing.
Alteryx uses the ISO format yyyy-mm-dd HH:MM:SS to represent dates and times. If a DateTime value is not in this format, Alteryx reads it as a string. To convert a column for use and manipulation in the DateTime format, use the DateTimeParse function in the expression editor or the DateTime Tool.
The above phrase [^A-Za-z] is basically telling Alteryx to replace anything that isn’t upper or lower a to z. We didn’t specify any of the special characters including a space. Lets try adding a space. The formula now looks like this [^A-Za-z\s] The next is to add the other special characters , ( ) &. The new formula would be [^A-Za-z\s, ()&]
